Giving Kitchen Cabinets A Distressed Look

Unlike regular paints the key to getting a great distressed look with chalk paint is to make your cabinets look old and a bit banged up before you start painting.
To match the modern industrial look of the kitchen the light gray kitchen cabinets were lightly distressed. Consider applying some dark wax onto the weathered edges and into the corners. Make sure all traces of dust are gone. This will help give your cabinet that distinctive weathered look.
I did not actually distress my cabinets. The glaze was used mostly on the cabinet grooves crevices to further embolden the small details of the kitchen. Pigments can also be added to varnish in order to create an antique look. Focus on the cracks and corners where dust and dirt are most likely to collect.

Let that dry then paint on. Apply the wax using a soft cloth or a foam sponge. You want to create a worn look to the kitchen cabinets as though these things have been used for decades. The goal was white cabinet.
