There s a good reason to do this.
Then lay the tiles but starting at the second course after marking the top of the first course on the wall. This method is safer for the cabinets less chance of damage or scratches on the cabinets from moving tile around. We used it and it works like a charm. Installing the tile before the cabinetry means additional square footage for the installer but less detail and trim work.
If you don t want messy mastic on the wall before you tile then use a product called bondera. For floor base units its easier to tile before fitting them and mark their position on the wall first. Personally i prefer to have the tile installed before the cabinets when possible. If due to design circumstances for example an odd appliance height or construction anomaly your total flooring height will need to be elevated and finished higher than normal two inches or more consider installing flooring before putting in the kitchen cabinets and appliances.
But it works either way. Installing the tile before the cabinetry means the newly installed tile floor will likely be the workbench for the other trades involved in the project as well as being susceptible to abuse and damage. The first course should never me marked as a whole tile and the mark you put on the wall should be about 12mm short of a full tile. For tiles the idea would be to have the tiles down first.
